The Story

how many children do you have?
one
how many pregnancies have you had?
1
how old were you when you gave birth?
22
what are your childrens' ages?
3
did any of those end in early release? (miscarriage, still birth or abortion?) if so, can you share a little about those experience?
No
what surprised you about the mushroom journey?
How deep it would take me into my own journey/ healing/ history/ family/ self. How rigorous the work actually is to become a better person & parent. Rewriting inherited programming from past generations of parenting styles ("breaking generational curses") is no joke, serious business for sure. On the flip side of that coin I was surprised at being given an opportunity to sink into the beauty that gift actually is; the generational gift of parental programming we each do inherently carry. Was also pleasantly surprised at the support and education that exists in this framework adjacent to the mushroom and other psychedelics (huge thanks to Microdosingmom on insta & of course Mamadelamyco)

Pregnancy

why did you choose to ingest mushrooms before your pregnancy?
First introduction was recreational then recognized benefits in smaller doses and started dosing psychedelics in micros. *Disclaimer* I did experience hospitalization and episode of psychosis after this decision- 4 years before pregnancy. Rehabilitated in the months afterwards and made a choice to walk very intentionally with these medicines thereafter knowing the risks and their affects first hand. 6 years later am still on a path I am happy and content with. I do feel that my mental health has benefited with the decision to continue my journey with psychedelics; especially after giving birth and experiencing PPD after taking the pharmaceutical route which offered minimal relief. Making the choice to use the substances that were involved in my hospitalization and episode has helped me heal and work through the trauma associated with that experience.
why did you choose to ingest mushrooms during your pregnancy?
During my pregnancy I had to have a tooth pulled. I had been working on a root canal on this tooth in a dental office before I found out I was pregnant and had used the anesthetic that is typically used as opposed to local anesthetic which is used in the case of pregnancy. I found this out after having to get the tooth pulled since the dental office I was working with shut down during the COVID-19 lockdown and was no way I could continue the root canal work. After finding out there were separate anesthetics for pregnant and nursing people vs. non I was curious as to what the effects were. Same with Tylenol vs ibuprofen for pain relief. Didn't find enough research to support pregnant and nursing people in the difference as most of the recommendations were based out of an abundance of caution as opposed to substantial evidence of birth defects or complications in pregnancy. Later after birth I did the same with the number of medications I was prescribed for PPD, there weren't many studies that actually supported these medications being safe in a long term way or I personally found the research to be lacking in actually proving safety in pregnancy or nursing stages. Specifically with the knowledge that most of the studies the research came from were motivated likely by financial incentive to be in favor of the medications. Similar with small amounts of alcohol during pregnant and nursing stages I found research on both sides of the coin, some stating it was completely safe in small amounts and others discouraging out of an abundance of caution stating the studies of fetal alcohol syndrome being the reason to avoid the substance all together. Same with caffeine, conflicting research with some parents admitting to consuming high doses of caffeine during pregnancy and while nursing. I realized at that point, ultimately it was my decision to make on what I wanted to put in my body and my child's body via nursing and I was much more comfortable using matter that was organic as opposed to medications for mental health made in a lab that didn't help much, gave me nightmares, hive breakouts, and induced manic behavior.
what benefits did you notice in your pregnancy?

After Birth & Breastfeeding

why did you choose to ingest mushrooms after you gave birth?
See previous answer- in summary: I experienced severe post partum depression and at the time I didn't have access to psilocybin and decided to seek treatment the traditional and clinical route via talk therapy and psychiatric care with no major resolve. Later on I found access to psilocybin and started microdosing again and seeking community. Eventually got completely off of the psychiatric medications and started going to a counseling center that is informed of psychedelics and integration work and started seeing drastic improvement in a matter of 6 months with all those combined: Microdosing, Continuing Education surrounding this topic, Community, & Integrative work with support via Counseling.
did you ingest mushrooms while breastfeeding?
did you notice any benefits to a) yourself b) to your baby and what were the benefits when ingesting mushrooms while breastfeeding?
I didn't as much during pregnancy than after but when I did I felt more aligned, more conscious of the process my body was going through, more interest in my well-being, reduced stress, more connected to my baby. Feeling supported by the world around me, was also able to sink deeper into my feelings. Really gain more introspection and insight into my inner world.
did you notice any challenges to a) yourself b) to your baby and what were the benefits when ingesting mushrooms while breastfeeding?

Parenting

what benefits did you notice in your parenting that you attribute to the mushroom?
I actually had a lot of anger come up when I first started working with the mushroom again after taking psychiatric medications for a little over a year. I noticed short patience at times; I think I needed to be shown that anger lived within me and have an opportunity to work through that within myself. I cried a lot in release of it, there's much to be angry about in today's world and especially as a person in an active parenting role (in my case I am the only present parent) Since then I've been able to be a more patient parent and have compassion for the processes my child is going through in addition to my own processes.
what were the unwanted effects or challenges of ingesting mushrooms while parenting?
The legality as number one, I still struggle with digesting the unlikely potential outcome and legal ramifications. The social stigma that is attached to partaking in something that is not "the norm" and is criminalized/ typically socially frowned upon. I mentioned in a previous question *see: what benefits did you notice in your parenting that you attribute to the mushroom?* I had a lot of anger and short temper at first come up in my body to address before being able to really sink into the practice.
what benefits have you noticed about your children that you attribute to the mushroom?
We have been complimented on her language development, her vocabulary is expansive for her age. This could be contributed to other factors as well such as attentive family care and frequent engagement but not outside of what I feel is normally expected of a healthy family. High inquisition, which is absolutely common for the age group but could be attributed to the mushroom? Undecided as I don't have comparison as a parent of one. Have had comments from outside the family "genius baby"

Summary

what would you like to say to other mothers & pregnant/birthing people about your own experience?
Trust yourself. You know you better than anyone and you know your baby/(s) better than anyone. No one can take that inner knowing and intuition away from you. That connection belongs to you as a sovereign right. You deserve to be healthy, and to have space to heal & explore healing in whatever ways you see fit. I love you, you're doing amazing ❤️
